barbaresco-bersano-1
Barbaresco Bersano 1977

This red wine comes from Piedmont in north-western Italy, a region surrounded by the Alps that is considered one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world. The landscape in the sub-area of Langhe is characterised by dramatic, steep hills that are often shrouded in thick morning fog in the autumn. This phenomenon protects the grapes and gives them a long, perfect ripening. The wine comes specifically from Barbaresco, which lies east of Alba, where production is centred especially around the towns of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. The 1977 vintage in this area is described as a classic year with depth and finesse, which has earned a score of 94 points.

The wine is made from Nebbiolo, an Italian top grape known for creating elegant wines with great structure. This grape is deeply rooted in the local wine culture and is typically grown in Barolo, Barbaresco and the rest of Piedmont, where it forms the foundation of the region's most famous wines.

The producer behind the wine is Bersano, which was founded in 1907 by Giuseppe Bersano in Nizza Monferrato. It was, however, his son Arturo Bersano who, from 1935, truly took the house out into the world and built its international reputation. The wine house has expanded considerably since the purchase of the Cremosina estate in 1912 and today covers 230 hectares spread over 10 properties in both Langhe and Monferrato. The business is today run by the Massimelli family, where Federica Massimelli joined in 2021 as the house's first female leader. The wine bears the classification Denominazione d'Origine Controllata and is bottled directly in the production zone, true to the house's historic motto, which appears on the label: "A guarantee of land, people and traditions".

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0646/3478/1950/files/6338CAAF-5E6C-4CA8-AD0A-D4E9B9FD9741.jpg?v=1789636327
