barolo-brunate-m-marengo-1999
Brunate Barolo Mario Marengo 1999

The 1999 Brunate Barolo is an estate-bottled red wine produced by Mario Marengo, a family-owned winery with roots dating back to 1899. Located in the commune of La Morra, the estate is currently managed by fourth-generation winemaker Marco Marengo, who maintains the classic direction of the house. This specific wine originates from Brunate, one of the most prestigious vineyards situated on the border between La Morra and Barolo.

The wine is crafted entirely from Nebbiolo, a premier Italian grape variety deeply tied to the Barolo area and the broader Piedmont region. Piedmont, meaning "at the foot of the mountain," is located in northwestern Italy and is surrounded by the Alps. The region is characterized by its dramatic, steep hills, particularly in the Langhe area southwest of Alba, where autumn morning fog frequently blankets the landscape, protecting the grapes and allowing for a long ripening period. The 1999 vintage is recognized as a great vintage with complexity and depth, earning a score of 95 points.

Mario Marengo follows an orthodox, traditional approach to winemaking. The production involves long maturation in large, neutral oak casks known as botti, rather than utilizing new French barriques. The wine holds the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) classification, representing the highest tier of Italian wine designation, and is presented in the traditional Albeisa bottle at 14% alcohol by volume.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0646/3478/1950/files/generated-75_5d9771a0-e99c-4741-9760-e236fa0ad5e1.jpg?v=1781771958
