This Italian red wine is crafted in Tuscany, one of the country's most iconic wine regions with viticultural roots dating back to the Etruscans.

The wine originates from Montalcino, a historic hill town located approximately 40 kilometers south of Siena. The zone is naturally bordered by the Ombrone, Asso, and Orcia rivers. The 1996 vintage in this area is described as elegant and acid-driven, earning a score of 88 points. Vineyards in Montalcino are situated at varying altitudes ranging from 120 to over 600 meters above sea level, resulting in a diverse range of microclimates across the municipality.

The area features a predominantly Mediterranean climate, which is generally warmer and drier than the northern Tuscan wine regions. The vineyards are sheltered from severe weather by Mount Amiata to the south. Soil composition varies significantly depending on the altitude and specific location; the northern section is defined by limestone-rich marl, locally known as galestro, whereas the lower southern areas contain a higher concentration of clay and sandstone.

This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese, Italy's principal grape variety. Locally known as Sangiovese Grosso or Brunello, it is the foundation for many classic wines in the region. While it is the undisputed main grape of Tuscany, Sangiovese is also frequently cultivated in Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, and California.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0646/3478/1950/files/generated-446_25adc45b-c4e2-43de-ac9c-0b0595ae5474.jpg?v=1784901226
